LIGHT-THEMED EXHIBITIONS

Design Forum Showroom
299 792 458 m/s

Designer and interior architect Timo Ripatti and designer Kai van der Puij will open their exhibition at the Design Forum Showroom at 5 pm on Lux Helsinki's opening day, 4 January. The main theme will be light, which the exhibition's creators will explore in a number of ways. On display will be a work based on joint inspiration and activity, alongside individual achievements. The themes will vary from spaces created based on light in motion, to atmospheric light experiences.

The number of installations created at the site will increase day by day, until the exhibition is complete on 8 January. The exhibition will be open until 25 January 2015.

Timo Ripatti and Kai van der Puij have collaborated on a number of exhibition projects. Based on a joint nomination, they were awarded third prize in the Winter War Memorial Competition in 2014.

Open: Each day during Lux Helsinki from 5 pm to 10 pm, 9–25 Jan. Mon to Fri 12 noon to 6 pm and Sat– Sun 12 noon to 4 pm.
Address: Erottajankatu 9 B, inner courtyard

Esplanadi Park stage
Kustaa Saksi: Muna/Egg

The installation is a huge inflatable and illuminated egg with a surface that is decorated and patterned like a Fabergé egg. Kustaa Saksi took an egg as a starting point for his work as it is a popular theme in folk art and stories. The patterns inspire people to tell their own stories. The installation Egg was first seen in the Finnish pavilion at the Frankfurt Book Fair in October 2014.

Kustaa Saksi is a Finnish illustrator and artist based in Amsterdam. His visual world is full of enchanting patterns, original animals and psychedelic colours. The installation was produced by Design Forum Finland in cooperation with the artist.

Open: 5 pm–10 pm
Address: Esplanadi Park

OTHER LIGHTING VENUES

Blue Line

The Blue Line lives according to the time of day, the four seasons and the city’s pulse, shining above the inner city’s longest undivided street axis. The Union Axis is the street axis between Tähtitorninmäki (the observatory hill) and Kallio church, consisting of Kopernikuksentie, Unioninkatu and Siltasaarenkatu streets.

A laser light draws a blue line from the roof of Helsinki Observatory to the Kallio church tower. The best spot to view the installation is the Union Axis itself. The installation was designed by Vesa Honkonen/Vesa Honkonen Architects LP.

The installation was made to mark the occasion of Helsinki’s 200th anniversary as the capital of Finland in 2012. It was launched on 10 December 2012, 135 years to the day from when electric lights were first lit in Helsinki or anywhere in Finland in 1877.

Time: According to the time of day, the season and the city’s pulse
Address: Kopernikuksentie, Unioninkatu and Siltasaarenkatu
